This is the first book by this author that I have read. The characters of this novel spread across geographies and belonging to various professions bear uncanny resemblances to the people I have bumped into in real life. The protagonist of the story, Dr Ted, is a brilliant scholar who struggles to blend into any particular place or culture despite being a keen observer with excellent people skills. Through his life's journey, the author delineates almost the entire world and its people, which alone claims the attention of any travel enthusiast. Finally, the way Ted ends up finding the family and human intimacy that eluded him all his life, through the most unexpected of circumstances, teaches a reader what the actual purpose of one's life should be and makes us wonder if maybe we should stop chasing the unachievable and appreciate the delight of being home with our loved ones. In my opinion, the scattered, unsettled generation of today can greatly benefit from such fine literature, and I personally cannot wait to see what Mr Rover comes up with next.
